Before I opened the shop, I was a professional yacht skipper. I didn’t exactly fit the archetypal image of a skipper. In fact, to the people I took sailing I’d say I was as unexpected as a Ford KA with a Ferrari engine. I kind of liked that though. They’d see this slightly ditzy girl in her flip flops greet them whilst their fellow competitors had the seasoned (and possibly slightly grubby) look of a bloke who’d been across oceans, survived shark attacks and drank rum for breakfast, lunch and dinner. To be honest, the latter was probably true…
So when I had the chance to get back on the water for a day I couldn’t possibly resist.
Chris Rees from Rees Leisure asked if I’d like to be involved in the Ladies Cup Regatta, an event run in conjunction with the yachtmarket.com Southampton Boat Show. So, I gathered together a team of awesome ladies for a fun and very windy day of yacht racing.
Half our team had never sailed before, let alone raced, but everyone got stuck in and earned their bruises! I am very proud to say we came second overall, winning a bottle of Opihr Gin for our efforts.
And the best part?
Sharing the launch of the new branding with this group of confident, fun and supportive women.
So what's next for Liz and Fitz?
Whilst we put the finishing touches to the new website and await the keys for the second shop, you’ll be able to get a flavour of the women’s brands on offer in the current shop. For the next two weeks, we’ll be featuring our first brand, Peregrine, with a collection of cosy merino wool knitwear, that feels like a warm hug from someone special, alongside some jackets with lovely design details that are as individual as you are. Perfect for this Autumnal weather.
