My 10-year-old daughter is already planning her first business. She’s obsessed with Masterchef and wants to participate when she’s old enough, but until then she’s decided to start her own foodie enterprise. The name she chose for her business is one that she wholly identifies with and one that represents the product and service she’s offering.
But what if the product or service changes or evolves?
The Mantique has boutique shopping for men at its roots, providing an environment that’s easy to shop and enjoyable to visit. With a curated collection of interesting British brands that satisfy your need for beautifully made, high quality designs that are a little different to the usual high street offerings.
But I’m not stopping there.
The ladies are going to be in on the fun too.
Yes, it’s official. After countless lovely customers asking if I was ever going to open a women’s version of The Mantique, I decided to take the plunge. And the response has been amazing. In fact, one lovely customer whooped for joy and danced around the shop when she heard the news!
But there’s just one problem…
‘The Mantique’ doesn’t exactly sit well with a female side does it?
I’ve been given a few suggestions for the women’s side, one of which was particularly… ahem… indecent.
But it’s now been decided. The Mantique is changing its name to…
Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy are the key characters in Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice, which she wrote, just a few miles up the road from the shop, in Chawton. The characteristics of Bennet and Darcy are what makes our customers special too, so they are the perfect inspiration for our new name.
Liz is strong and independent yet playful and flirty. Fitz is intelligent and a romantic Gentleman at heart, even though he doesn’t always know how to show it.
I am so proud to have met lots of women over the last couple of years who run their own businesses and I love the supportive network of ladies who have each other’s backs. These women are confident and they want their appearance to reflect that, but in an individual, playful way. The new ladies collection will become your wardrobe warrior, pieces that take you from day to night and for every eventuality.
And what about the men?
Don’t you worry. The choice of menswear brands on offer will evolve and grow so that Liz & Fitz continues to bring you the very best of exclusive British brands. After all, you men take just as much pride in your appearance. What I have noticed is that you don’t always have the confidence to choose an outfit yourself…
“I really like this but I’ve got to check whether she likes it first…”
And that’s where the Liz & Fitz team come in. The original shop has always been a welcoming place that makes shopping easy and enjoyable. Even for men. We don’t do the hard sell and we are honest with our advice so you’ll always leave with something that shows you at your very best.
So when is it all happening?
Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be sharing our progress with you. We’ll be expanding into the shop next door which will become home to the ladies collection. The men’s side will be getting a little face lift and all of this will culminate in a celebration to mark the beginning of a new chapter.
I cannot wait to welcome you in!
